六、内容简介
Hypothetical intentionalism is the view that the meaning of a work is determined by the ideal audience’s best hypothesis about the author’s intention; a second version holds that interpretation should be guided by a postulated author made out from the work by the audience. In this paper, I deal with the local debate between these two versions of hypothetical intentionalism, arguing that the postulated author account is more convincing than the actual author account. To demonstrate, I conduct a case study and use the Spanish film Open Your Eyes as a counterexample to the actual author account and show that in this case the interpretation reached by the postulated author account is more acceptable. After that, I consider a possible objection to my argument.
